So I've been thinking about trying steeking for sometime now. I started the bulky neck down cardigan for women (by knitting pure and simple) and decided that I was going to knit it in the round and steek it. I've been working the sweater off and on for a couple weeks. Then I listened to Megan's Pod-cast, and well she's having a contest so I decided now is the time! So I browsed around the Internet and watched a few videos and since I sew a lot too, I had no fear of doing a sewn steek. So on went my machine. I used my walking foot
(and a size 16 needle) that I have for quilting since the yarn was bulky (RYC Soft Tweed). Then I carefully sewed a line of stitches up each side of my center line which I marked with scrap yarn.
Just to be really safe I stitched each line twice.
Then I took out the scissors
and took a deep breath and started cutting.
It was liberating really.
I cut and my knitting didn't fall apart, and I didn't puke or faint!
I was actually pretty excited about it.
The only thing I'm slightly sad about it that I think I'm going to have to frog part of the first sleeve I have done-I think it's too tight!
Hubby was out golfing at the time and as you can see the dogs weren't too impressed by me!
